What is a visa bond?

A financial guarantee, held by a bank, that you'll meet the terms of your visa.

Some travelers are required to post one as a condition of their visa. Whether you need a bond, and for how much, is decided by the relevant authorities, not by VisaBond. What we do is run the process of putting it in place, between three parties.

  1. IYouSubmit your application and documents.
  2. IIThirteen MonthVerifies your details and documents, then refers you to a bank.
  3. IIIA participating bankAssesses the bond and records the decision.

How it works

Four steps, and you can see where you are in every one.

  1. I

    Apply in three short steps

Your bond, your passport and your details. Your account is created as part of the application, so there's nothing to set up first.

  2. II

    Upload your documents

Your passport, any financial or visa documents, and documentation for collateral you're offering. Files are stored securely and shown only to the people reviewing your application.

  3. III

    We verify everything

Our team checks your details and documents. If something is missing, you're told exactly what, and the review continues from where it left off.

  4. IV

    A participating bank decides

We refer your verified application to a participating bank, which assesses it and records its decision: approved, declined, or more information needed.

Why you can trust it

Built for a process where the details matter.

People make the decisions

VisaBond collects, routes and records information for human review. It never approves, declines or scores an application automatically.

A complete, permanent record

Every status change, document action and decision is written to an audit trail with who did it and when. Records are added, never rewritten.

Your documents stay private

Files are held in secure storage and reached only through short-lived, signed links. They are never public, and never shared beyond the people reviewing your application.

Hosted in Ethiopia

Your application and documents are stored on servers in Ethiopia and never leave the country.

Frequently asked

Questions travelers ask us first.

What is a visa bond?

A financial guarantee some travelers must post in connection with a visa, held as security that you'll comply with its terms. Whether you need one, and for how much, is decided by the relevant authorities, not by VisaBond or Thirteen Month.

Does VisaBond decide whether I'm approved?

No. VisaBond is the system your application travels through, not the decision-maker. Thirteen Month verifies your documents, and a participating bank assesses the application and records the decision. None of it is automated.

What documents will I need?

At minimum, your passport. Depending on your circumstances you may also be asked for visa documents, financial documents, other identification, or documentation for collateral you're offering. You can upload documents any time after you apply, and add more if the reviewer asks.

How long does it take?

It depends on how quickly your documents can be verified and on the bank's own process, so we don't promise a fixed turnaround. You can see your application's current stage at any time, and you're emailed whenever it changes.

What if I'm asked for more information?

Your application moves to “Additional information required” and you receive an email explaining what's needed. Upload what was asked for and the review resumes from that point. You don't start again.

What if my application isn't approved?

You'll see the outcome along with any notes the reviewer recorded. Your records and history stay available to you, and you can contact Thirteen Month to discuss your options.

Ready to begin your application?

It takes three short steps, and your account is created as you go. You can upload your documents straight afterwards.
